Restricted Area Permit (RAP) Guide
What is RAP?
The Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is an official document issued by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to authorize entry into restricted areas. Great Nicobar Island is one of the most restricted areas in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Important Note for Tourists
RAP is NOT issued for tourism purposes.
If you are a tourist seeking to visit Great Nicobar Island, you cannot obtain a RAP. This permit is exclusively for government-approved personnel.
Who Can Get RAP?
- ✓Government Officials: On official duty or administrative work
- ✓Researchers: Approved research projects with government endorsement
- ✓Project Workers: Employees of government-approved development projects
- ✓Military Personnel: Defense and security forces
- ✗NOT Tourists: Tourism permits are not issued for Great Nicobar
Required Documents (if eligible)
If you are part of an authorized group, you may need to provide:
- • Valid government ID or passport
- • Official letter from your organization
- • Purpose of visit documentation
- • Project details or research proposal
- • Medical fitness certificate (in some cases)
Tribal & Ecological Protection
Great Nicobar Island is home to indigenous Nicobarese people. Access is restricted to protect:
